Week #2 Understanding Common Core for ELA and Literacy

After watching the video, I have come to an understanding of the specific goals as well as the advantages of Common Core State Standards. Before the establishments of state standards many students were unprepared for college and life because learning was not systemized and on level. Therefor, standards were established with the goal of setting specific standards and student outcomes that is expected to be taught. In this manner, an environment was created where students are actively engaged in challenging tasks. Common Core State Standards have been divided into four specific categories: speaking & listening, reading and writing. The standards put a strong emphasis integrating reading and writing including analytical reading. These standards clearly help students as they prepare to go into the workforce. Teachers must harness the opportunity and work to create lessons that align with Common Core State Standards to create an environment in which all students can learn and succeed.
