Week #3 Minds-on “New Literacies Definition and Components”




1. In the video and PPT technology is very much integrated in the lessons. Students used the internet to research about the units they were learning about to build on their prior knowledge.  Students were taught how to find information check for credibility and made inferences based on the results. The teacher I am interviewing thinks that the use of technology in a classroom aids student in learning in every subject. Mrs. Fried integrates technology to build on her students’ background knowledge in the future.
2.Firstly, I would encourage the teacher to implement research on the internet projects. For that, I would need to get enough computers for all students. I would tell her to implement a project at the start of the unit. Every student will receive a certain topic to research. Students will need to record their findings on some sort of software like power point or Prezi and then present it to the class on the smart board.
3.The teacher would have to attend PD’s that teach about integrating technology in classroom. Another good idea that I would offer the teacher is to find a teacher that integrates technology in a professional manner and ask her for assistance along the way.
4.For students to have equal access to technology I will need to group them in a smart manner. Firstly, English Language Learners will need to be grouped with students who are proficient in the English language. Secondly, I would pair a challenged student with a more competent student so that the weaker student has someone helping her. This way, all students are given an equal opportunity to succeed.
