Week #3 Theory in Practice

After reading the 3 articles, I have come to a deeper understanding of the term new literacies and how important it is for educators to understand and act upon it. Technology in the classroom is not only necessary to engage students, but it is an essential tool for the future. Being that there exist many technological tools that can help teachers prepare curriculum and students achieve desired goals, I feel that educators must embrace the opportunity. Since literacy is such an integral subject, educators must harness technology and use it to promote the learning of literacy. The web is full of wonderful applications which can be used to help students learn the English language. Some of the technological tools I would use in my classroom to promote new literacies is having students create and communicate through blogging. I would have my students keep their work organized in an E-portfolio. When teaching Literacy, I would have students create digital stories and I would also use various publishing tools like PowerPoint, Jing and Prezi.
